About VECA

VECA is located on the former SL Mason Elementary School campus. Each year two classes of sixth graders are admitted. The target population for VECA includes low income, first generation high school/college students who are struggling learners with potential. The students become members of the Valdosta State University campus community with access and privileges to many university resources. VECA students are dedicated, hard working, and willing to put forth the effort necessary to achieve their highest potential.

Valdosta Early College Academy has been a program for ten years enrolling our first class of sixth grade students in 2008-2009. We now serve sixth thru twelfth grades. This year we have twenty-two juniors and eighteen seniors enrolled in classes at Valdosta State University.

The ethnic diversity of VECA mirrors that of the Valdosta City School System. VECA has a faculty of teachers who are highly qualified and caring. Academic support is provided by VSU faculty, students, community partners, and academy teachers.

VECA has a strong academic focus with the expectation all students will attend college. Our student-centered learning community provides engaging and rigorous coursework. Our students are given the care and support needed to meet high expectations, succeed in school, and be prepared for college coursework.

The curriculum taught through VECA blends middle/high school and college into a seamless, technology rich education program. VECA also provides rigorous curriculum with high academic and behavioral expectations offering small classes in a collaborative and discovery learning environment. Instruction is designed to meet the needs of each student focusing on Math, Science, and Language Arts.

Any fifth grade student enrolled in Valdosta City Schools may apply for admission to VECA. If you are interested in learning more about our innovative learning environment, please contact Dr. Johnnie Marshall, Jr., Principal, at 229-671-8455.
