As February comes to a close, VECA celebrated with our annual Black History Program held at Valdosta State University's Student Union Theater. This year's celebration was truly a compilation of performances, with every grade level represented and many artistic mediums utilized. VECA's own Elite Praise choir performed two songs, while Museday Tuesday participants performed with American Sign Language and soloist Kianea Gayden delivered a powerful spiritual. Several Study Skills and AVID classes created and presented iMovies highlighting this year's National Black History Month theme: African Americans in Times of War. Drama presentations paid homage to the foundation laid by African American heroes. Lastly, Dr. Sheila Garcia, Chief Academic Officer of Teaching and Learning for Valdosta City Schools closed the ceremony with words of hope and future for our students. The faculty and staff at Valdosta Early College Academy would like to thank everyone who came today for your continued support in our program and in our students.
