C-O-N-G-R-A-T-U-L-A-T-I-O-N-S to VECA’s Spelling Bee winners and participants!

VECA held its 5th Annual Spelling Bee on Thursday, January 14.  The winners are as follow: Khalandrea Council, 1st place; Burnis Williams, 2nd place; and Arliyah Smith, 3rd place.

Participants in the Spelling Bee include: KaraSaun Brooks, Khalandrea Council, Matthew Dennis, Donovan Duncan, Zoie Gibert, Harper Hall, Cameron Jackson, Alexis Johnson, Zion Leggett, Kaliah McGee, Immanuel McCrae, Hiren Patel, Arliyah Smith, Asia Smith, Kaylen Stacks, Blake Suttles, Jimmya Wade, Burnis Williams, Joaquin Washington, and Kenneth Wright-Gross.

Thank you to the following individuals who assisted with the Spelling Bee.  Mrs. Traci Jones, ELA teacher at VECA, served as the caller.  Dr. Barbara Radcliffe (Interim Department Head and Middle Grades Coordinator at Valdosta State University), Mr. Elton Dixon (founder of ENAY Coaching, LLC), and Mrs. Linda Sparks (retired Georgia educator and community member) all served as judges for the e-x-c-i-t-i-n-g competition.  A special thanks to Mrs. Jennifer Sparks, ELA teacher, for orchestrating the competition. 

Principal, Dr. Mae McKinney, presented participation certificates and trophies to the winners. A reception was held in honor of the participants and winners following the Spelling Bee.

Good Luck to Khalandrea, Burnis, and Arliyah as they represent VECA in the Valdosta City Schools System-Wide Spelling Bee on January 20, 2017.  The Spelling Bee will be held at the Performing Arts Center (PAC) on Valdosta High School’s campus.
