VECA's 4th Annual Spelling Bee

 

C-O-N-G-R-A-T-U-L-A-T-I-O-N-S to VECA’s Spelling Bee participants and winners!

VECA held its 4th Annual Spelling Bee on Thursday, January 14.  The winners are as follow: Roberto Perez, 1st place; Harper Hall, 2nd place; and Demetriyah Lane, 3rd place.

Participants in the Spelling Bee include: Demetriyah Lane, Harper Hall, Alexis Gosier, Cameron Capers, Hiran Patel, Jada Miller, Zain McGlamery,  Wymberley Leavy, Jimmya Wade, Solomon Thomas, Corinia Thomas, and Roberto Perez.

Thank you to the following individuals who assisted with the Spelling Bee.  Dr. Artrice Haugabrook, Assistant Principal at Sallas Mahone Elementary, served as the caller.  Dr. Barbara Radcliffe (Interim Department Head and Middle Grades Coordinator at Valdosta State University), Dr. Shirley Andrews (Professor of Early Childhood Education at Valdosta State University), and Ms. Kathy Wright (Retired Choral Conductor at Colquitt County High School) all served as judges for the e-x-c-i-t-i-n-g competition.  A special thanks to Mrs. Jennifer Sparks, ELA teacher, for orchestrating the competition. 

Principal, Dr. Mae McKinney, presented participation certificates and trophies to the winners. A reception was held in honor of the participants and winners following the Spelling Bee.

Good Luck to Roberto, Harper, and Demetriah as they represent VECA in the Valdosta City Schools System-Wide Spelling Bee on February 5, at 9:30 AM.  The Spelling Bee will be held at the Performing Arts Center (PAC) on Valdosta High School’s campus.
